The term Stygian derives from the River Styx in Greek mythology, a boundary that separates the world of the living from the another realm. The Styx was believed to possess profound power, most notably its ability to grant invulnerability, as exemplified in the myth of Achilles. His mother, Thetis, submerged him in the Styx’s waters to make him impervious to harm. Yet, because she held him by his heel, this single, untouched spot became his undoing—a vulnerability that would ultimately lead to his tragic demise.

The concept of perfection through fracture is central to this work. Just as Achilles near invincibility was marred by the flaw in his heel, Stygian Soul suggests that darkness is not merely emptiness or absence, but rather a space that conceals complexity. It invites the viewer to consider what may lie beneath the surface whether an imperfection, a fragility, or something deeper and more elusive, waiting to be uncovered.

In this way, Stygian Soul compels its audience to reflect. Rather than offering clear answers, it encourages contemplation on what lies beneath the surface, whether it is flaw, fragility, or something more profound. The work leaves room for reflection, urging an exploration of the deeper, often hidden aspects of existence.
